The erbium:YAG laser is a 2940-nm ablative laser that targets intracellular water like the CO 2 laser does; however, its affinity for intracellular water is 10 times greater than that of carbon dioxide laser. This greater affinity allows for a cleaner target cell ablation with less thermal collateral cell damage. The Er:YAG laser, with its 2940 nm wavelength, emits laser energy in the mid-infrared invisible light spectrum. This wavelength has 10 to 15 times the affinity for water absorption as compared with the CO 2 laser (10,600 nm). The output of Er:YAG enables the painless monitoring of blood sugar levels, while safely reducing the risk for infection.
